Favorite Things to Do List...

As much as I love to travel, and find any excuse to do so, I never seem to get to do a lot of those things that you see tourists doing. It is always awe inspiring to me, to go to so many of the places that I have heard about growing up or saw on the television/in movies. It makes it even more real to me. I lived in Detroit for over twelve years and had the opportunity to go to a lot of different places around the country, but there are many more I would like to visit. And the ones I have visited, I have not always been able to go to all those places of interest that AAA and other travel guides have suggested.

I was having a conversation just last night with a close friend of mine, and I was telling her that as many times as I have been to New York City, I have never been to Central Park, the Empire State Building and I have never seen the old girl herself, the Statue of Liberty. I have however been on the steps of Gianni Versace’s mansion in South Beach, Navy Pier in Chicago, Niagara Falls in Canada, and the French Quarter in New Orleans and stood on the exact spot where JFK was assassinated in Dallas. I have enjoyed seeing all these places, but there are a few more places I would like to go yet… I have yet to see Mt. Rushmore; I would like to see the Grand Canyon and maybe even cross the Golden Gate, even though I hate going over suspension bridges. And the list goes on and on and on and on…
(Sydney Opera House, Australia)
Travel is fascinating to me; you learn so much about the geography of an area, the people, their culture and traditions. There are two places in the world where I would love to go to, and I have been saying this for the longest, Singapore and Australia. I am not sure why I am stuck on those two places, but ever since I was a little kid I have always wanted to go to those two countries, and before I make my transition I would really like to do that. Can I say "Bucket List"... Sometimes I think that I should have been an airline hostess… I always thought they had the coolest job, with awesome perks, flying for free all over the world. I know that it is not the easiest job and they have to sometimes work really long hours, but I still think it would be a sweet deal…
(Singapore Skyline@ night, gorgeous!)

So why did I not pursue this goal, well for those of you who know me well enough, you would realize I am vertically challenged and one of the requirements for Bee Wee, BWIA, the British West Indian Airlines, the main carrier in the islands back then, was that you had to be at least 5 ft 8in. and I am definitely not there. Another requirement that I still could not meet was the one where all their airline hostesses had to be able to swim, and even though I grew up on an island I cannot swim, neither can I float properly. GO FIGURE! Added to that I have always had a reoccurring dream where I drowned and I am not sure flying over great expanses of water on a regular basis was the best thing for someone with those types of “issues”. And I am quite sure I could have at least mastered one foreign language, yeah they also required you to at least know one language other than English, go figure!!

Anyway whenever you get a chance, make the time to do some travelling it broadens your horizons and opens up your world immensely. Feel free to share a couple of your dream destinations!
