Fashion has always been a passion of mine and I can remember from an early age taking an avid interest in what I wore as a child. My dearly departed mum used to make a lot of my clothes and sometimes she would even sew us matching outfits. I even had a Strawberry Shortcake Sewing Machine and to this day I still cannot sew, oh the shame! Anyway that still did not stop me from having an interest in fashion and finding time to watch Style with Elsa Klensch on CNN after school.


I recently had the opportunity to attend Fashion Houston 2011 with my BFF KTL, in fact you should try to check out her blog too @ ClassicallyChic.blogspot.com. I had an awesome time and thoroughly enjoyed the both nights we attended. I was extremely excited to see Carmen Marc Valvo’s Spring 2012 collection, but by far the surprise of the shows for me was Bibhu Mohapatra. I was totally floored with his pieces and fell in love, and guess what? His pieces are sold at Neiman Marcus Stores nationwide. I wanted to share with you a couple images from the shows, as well as a couple chronicling my Fashion Houston 2011 Experience…

I know I have not posted in like forever, but I hope everyone enjoyed their summer! I did and those weddings I mentioned in the last post I published did go off, not without hitches, but they went nevertheless... We are well into the fall season and it is unseasonably warm here on the upper east coast right now, but there is one thing you can depend on every fall and that is the Olive Garden's Never-ending Pasta Bowl Special Promotion... I love Italian food and you can count on them to provide some very tasty mass produced Italian food. Well As most if not all of you know, I moved a couple years ago this month and there are some things that have changed and somethings which have not...

Well I have this really good friend, who for purposes of this post I will refer to as "Hollywood". Well Hollywood and I have had this tradition of going to the Never-ending Pasta Bowl Promotion every single year since we met, starting in 1998. The first year we missed was the year after I moved... This year as soon as I saw the television ads for the Never-ending Pasta Bowl Promotion and I called her immediately, to let her know that it had started and even though we were no longer in the same city anymore, that I still planned on going and she agreed with me too. Well that might be the end of the story, but it gets even weirder...

I kept planning to go to Olive Garden and I kept putting it off, until recently on a trip to Boston, I was visiting with a friend and I decided it was time to go, before the promotion ended. The next day I called Hollywood to tell her that I had finally gone to Olive Garden and continued with our tradition and she told me I was there yesterday too. After further conversation we figured out that not only did we both go to Olive Garden's Never-ending Pasta Bowl Promotion on the exact same day, at about the exact same time (4:00 pm) in two different parts of the country (Midwest and East Coast, but we both had the exact same pasta sauce for our first dish. We could not help but both ROTFL... The coincidence was surreal... We had not conveyed our plans to go to each other, but there we were continuing with our tradition in tandem and it got me to thinking about life and all the things that happen coincidentally or maybe not. I am a firm believer in things happening for a reason and everything in its own time. I have always just smiled at those moments when I felt a sense of deja vu, but this was so different that it merited a fully belly laugh.

Anyway I hope you too get to enjoy one of those moments in life where explainable things happen... It's Another day and Another Bubble Popped!!

Hey Folks! Yes it's me the ever so elusive Soapy Bubbles, who has been revived once again from the coma that surounds her when she does not write... Mind you its not that I haven't wanted to write, found interesting topics/incidents/inspiration to write about over the past few months or even attempted to pen a few words, in fact I have, I just haven't pushed myself to publish anything, still waiting on that right moment... And the technical difficulties I was experiencing with my computer...

At the start of every new month, I have to think about the goals yet not attained and I always find myself singing that Bone Thugs N Harmony song, "First of the Month". The first of the month means a lot for different people, new beginnings, endings, bills, etc... But seeing that I have yet to go to sleep the line I used as the header might not be appropriate. I know I said I would try to write and keep this blog going as much as possible, but time and life sometimes does not often allow.

We are full on bang in to wedding season and I have three (3) to attend, and funny enough they are all on consecutive weekends, lucky me rigt? Well I am attempting to get ready for all of them and I am finding the task quite a bit daunting, especially on a budget, but I am getting there... (will keep you posted, maybe even post a couple pics) Nevertheless, I will try to superwoman it all and enjoy the summer...

Well folks, it's official, football season is over and I must send my congratulation shout-out to the Green Bay Packers as the newly crowned winners of the Vince Lombardi trophy in Superbowl XLV. Better luck next time Pittsburgh Steelers! Personally, I was rooting for the Steelers (Black and Yellow, ahem excuse me Gold as I know I will be corrected) but neither team is my favorite, so I really could care less. I am happy however, for former Michigan # 2 player, and Heisman trophy winner Charles Woodson, who after a number of years in the league will get his first Super Bowl ring. Go Maize and Blue!! Ok I promise no more team color mentions will be made throughout this post... Anyway I had a good time watching the game and as usual looked forward to the commercials and seeing the ingenuity of the advertising execs who keep us guessing every year as to what they're going to do next. There were some very memorable commercials and a lot of animal usage, some cutesy-pie ones and lots of celebrity cameo appearances.

By far, the most touching and meaningful commercial for me was the Chrysler 200 commercial, "Imported from Detroit" featuring the hometown Grammy and Oscar award winning rap artist Eminem. I happen to love Eminem, but I also happen to love Detroit, and even though I may not be a native Detroiter, I can't help but feel as though the city of Detroit has had a significant impact on shaping me into the individual that I am today. So kudos, to whichever advertising firm they used, excellent usage of Detroit landmarks and city views. I am almost certain that any Detroiter who saw that commercial felt some sense of pride or nostalgia looking at that commercial. On the other side of the coin, WTF!!! What the hell was Ford Motor Company thinking? Are you efffing kidding me?? You do a commercial for the Super Bowl and you highlight the city of New York... OK NYC needs no more recognition from anybody, the NYC skyline itself probably has its own agent securing big bucks for it every time it is used in a movie, TV show or commercial. I love NYC, don't get me wrong, and having lived in NYC for a couple years, it's a great city. But come on now? Ford you did a commercial highlighting a city where almost half the populace do not drive, neither do they own American made cars, much less a Ford vehicle. I had to LOL at that one!! :-) Did they also stop to consider that with a city with one of the most developed transit systems in the US, that more than half of NYC uses the subway and buses as their primary means of transportation on a day to day basis? No they couldn't just join in with Chrysler and bring some more focus on a region that is in dire straits and in need of as much revenue as possible. The crippling of the housing market and the restructuring of the automotive industry has left, Michigan and more importantly the city of Detroit reeling from the loss of so much revenue. A company that has made its bread and butter of the backs of Detroiters should have shown them a little more R-E-S-P-E-C-T! (Hope you feeling better Aretha!)

Anyway that's enough ranting from me, but I just had to get that off my chest... Folks, It's "Another Day & Another Bubble Popped!"

Most of my posts are based off personal experiences, so please bear with me and know that for the most part everything I say here is the "gospel truth", just with some added over-exaggerated prose to get the point across and give you a picture on your minds journey with me...

So, have you ever had the opportunity to hang out late night @ a fast-food joint? Weird question, huh? Not your usual haunt? I didn't think so! LOL It's not mine either, but I had to ask... Well I just had my first late night solo jaunt at the Mickey D's on the corner of New York and 13th St. NW around two or maybe it was three am. I was waiting for a friend of mine to pick me up as I had just arrived in town after a four hour journey. I had tons of time before they arrived and as I had no desire and no intentions to freeze my butt off, I figured it was someplace to keep warm. I knew I would at least be able to get something to warm me up. And it was the closest place to Metro Center (the pickup location) open for business.

As soon as I stepped into the establishment I should have known that it was going to be an interesting time. I wanted some hot chocolate, but wouldn't you know it, they had just shut down the machine and cleaned it. Well I had skipped dinner and I was a bit hungry so I ordered a sandwhich meal with a cup of cofee and two apples pies for $1. Well, my next task was to find a seat to eat in peace, which proved a little difficult. There were a couple transients, who looked to be regulars; this latino looking dude trying to sweet-talk this asian young lady ( who spoke-a vewwy likkle english) and two dudes in a booth and a lone guy taking up a four-seater. Well I sat next to the lone guy, after having asked if it was ok. As soon as he left and the two dudes vacated the booth, I quickly relocated to the booth which afforded me a pretty good view of the whole restaurant. Well I wasn't sitting there for too long before this latino guy asks me whether or not it was ok for him to sit with me. Well, by this time I had half-eaten most of my meal and there was an apple pie sitting in front of me.

This dude who I didn't know from Adam, stretched his hand all the way over to my side of the table and takes my apple pie from in front me. I had to do a double take, and watched while he proceeded to open the box and dip the apple pie into his BBQ sauce. Yes, I said it, BBQ SAUCE! A little perturbed, I turned around and in my sarcastic tone I said, "Sure, you are most welcome to have my apple pie, please do enjoy." He then looks at me, eyes quite un-focused and then says, "Would you like some apple pie?" I had to laugh, 'cause it was then that I realized his dilema, Dude was wasted beyond belief...LOL!! He then picks up the apple pie with his bare hands and offers it to me... I was like, "No, no, no you have it, you can't really expect me to eat it now that your hands have touched it, right?" And he kept insisting until I firmly said, "No!, you have it". But the craziness does not end there. I also had a napkin in front of me, which I had just used to blow my nose... Don't you know this dude, reaches over again, picks up my napkin and proceeds to wipe his hands clean... Hehehehe! Clean? Yeah Right! At that point, I had to stop him and offer him some of my hand sanitizer, and let him know that the napkin was definitely not clean... I mean really there was boogers on the napkin... Then he almost got the sista-girl cuss-out, when he tried to spit some game and ask me who I was talking to on the phone. I couldn't believe he had the nerve, but then I remembered alcohol loosens up the tongue as well as the inhibitions... But really how drunk are you going to get in public, so as to act out and make a fool of yourself, and if you plan on getting drunk, shouldn't you have a friend, wingman or someone else who will hav eyour back along just in case? This dude was soo drunk that he eventually left and then came back because he was incapable of finding his way home... Thank God! my ride came and I left him sitting there trying to figure out his next move...

It has me wondering however, at what point is a person too drunk and needs to find themselves a corner to sober up or just go home? "Alcohol is a helluva drug!"

It's just "Another Day & Another Bubble Popped"

Yeah I said it, Scorpio the zodiac sign, and coincidentally the one I have always identified with, has officially been screwed in the proverbial ass (well actually the tail, but who's really paying attention, except maybe me?) in the new debate that is heating up with the introduction of the newest zodiac sign- Ophiuchus. So, imagine my surprise when a friend of mine calls me and asks me whether or not I liked my new zodiac sign. I was like, "What the hell are you talking about?" Oblivious to all the shenanigans going on, she said go take a look, there is a new astrological sign and now most people no longer fall under the astrological sign that they may have always associated themselves with.

Well damn, ain't that about a bitch! Well for those people who swore by their horoscopes and could not make a life decision without having read their daily, weekly, monthly and annual horoscopes and consulted with their personal mediums... LMAO!! Ok, I don't mean to be mean, but I am such a pessimist and skeptic that I am not one of those people. But you know, do you! If that is what you are interested in, I can't knock it, it is after all your life. Anyway, as usual I digress, the fact of the matter is there has recently been new information put forward that suggests that we have been overlooking the changes in astronomy as the earth rotates on its axis and changes directions with the constellations. This information was provided by a Professor Parke Kunkle, a member of the Minnesota Planetarium Society. Soooo... the new sign, Ophiuchus (Still don't know how to pronounce it, help anyone!!!) covers the dates of November 29 - December 17 and is associated with the mystical animal of the serpent, yes that same serpent that "beguiled" Eve in the Garden of Eden and thus forever changing the history of mankind... So those of you who were previously under the sign of Sagittarius, especially need to check and see what's what. Well in all actuality everyone who pays attention to their zodiac might want to check and see if there has been any changes for themselves. But more importantly for those of you my fellow former Scorpios, did you see that the most significant change in dates for all of the zodiac signs happens to be our sign??? Why is that? The Scorpio zodiac sign only covers 7 days. Yes, I said it 7 days, November 23-29, and that's it! I have to admit I am a little outraged, and I am trying to figure out the reasoning behind the choice of dates. And how does this now affect our choice in mate selection, past and present? Can we really use the zodiac as a determining factor as we date and find our soul mates? I don't know, but as long as it wasn't your only factor I guess you are safe... Think about it for a second and let me know what you think...

P.P.S I just thought about something else, what about all those people who have their original zodiac signs tattooed on their bodies? Are they really going to go through with the painful removal of their tattoos? Damn! That shit hurts!!! Laters...

The new winter line-up of TV shows have started and there are a dew new arrivals in the Reality -TV category that have caught my attention. It was just another boring Tuesday night on the Telly for me, why? Well there was a re-run of the Fox network's, "Glee" showing (my guilty pleasure of the past year), so I switched to CBS. Guess who I saw? Yes folks, if you were wondering where good old Paula Abdul had disappeared to after her break from the judging panel of American Idol, you can now find her on yet another Reality-TV Talent show, "Live to Dance". Ordinarily this news would not inspire me to get off my sizable butt and write a new blog entry, but as providence would have it , I had tuned in just as my childhood idols were about to perform. I was definitely caught by surprise as I listened to the preliminary introductions of the group about to perform.

I am not sure if I had mentioned it before, but as a very impressionable child, I had wanted to become a "Solid Gold Dancer" and Solid Gold was one of my favorite shows. Well right there on the stage, a slight bit on the heavier side and a little more mature looking, were three former Solid Gold Dancers. And yes my favorite, the African American dancer who used to have the extremely long ponytail was on stage dancing her tooshie off, even though she appeared to be a tad bit slower than the other dancers.
